End to a Great Year

I cannot believe that the year is about over. 2005 has been an amazing year for me and my life. I ended 2004, which was probably the worst year of my life (although it could be a tossup between that year and 2003), not knowing where I was going in my life. Signing up for the Army was a decision that I made, knowing that I had no other option. I'm so glad that I made that choice. I'm one year into a four year contract, and I can't believe that it has gone as well as it has.

Basic Training humbled me like no other experience that I've ever gone through. While I was still fighting the depression that I'd been battling for over a year, I put on an air of superiority, also known as cockiness. The drill sergeants did a wonderful job of kicking that cockiness to the curb, and replacing it with a sense of self, discipline and confidence that are such a vital tool in life.

AIT put all of that to the test. Put in a leadership position because of my rank, I had to make hard decisions. The hardest decisions were the ones where I had to choose whether I would do the right thing, or do what would make me liked. Each time, I made the decision to do the right thing, regardless of what I could lose in the process. I lost a girlfriend, and some friends, but I walked out of there with my head held high, and my integrity in full. I left being respected by the ones that I respected most, my instructors, SSG Hamilton, SSG Jaboneta, SFC Traq, SFC Maye, SSG Mars, SSG Brodeur, and my hero Mr. Sosa.

Now, I'm in Vilseck, Germany, and love it here. I have great leadership that have gone out of their way to help me adjust to living over here, and I know have my best interests at heart. I couldn't ask for a better place to be.

2005 has been a turning point year for me. I end it not looking back at the year it was, but the years that are ahead of me, knowing the future is so bright and the opportunities so great.

Thank you God for bringing me to the point of making the decision that brought me here.

Big Ups to my parents for believing in me.
Big Ups to DS Rogers, Jackson and Scott for humbling me and teaching me to be a leader.
Big Ups to the instructors mentioned above for teaching me more than just how to be a pharmacy tech.
Big Ups to the MK office of the AG for all that they have done for me.
Big Ups to God for making this all happen.
